We just spent the afternoon enjoying a charming cruise of Boston Harbor, singing for Symantec’s annual “Land and Sea” event. We had a great time entertaining the folks throughout the ship, as well as enjoying what had to be, without a doubt, the world’s largest cheese plate!
After our performance, we enjoyed an extended cruise back from the Charlestown Navy Yard to Rowe’s Wharf (and devoured what was left of that cheese plate…). It was definitely a great way to experience Boston!

Last night, we headed out to Westwood and performed as part of their summer concert series. It was a full house, with balloon animals as far as the eye could see! We were lucky enough to get front-row seats to several “balloonsaber” duels… it was pretty sweet!
Great times, looking forward to making it back there next year!

What better way to spend the Sunday of a long weekend than traversing the streets of quaint Newburyport?
If you count yourself among the people who know of this Northshore gem, then you also are probably familiar with our group. We have, after all, been street performing in Newburyport during the summer months for the last 3 years!
If you happened to be there on July 5th, chances are you heard our all-male a cappella sound next to our giant sailboat, the Parlay (We wish!). This was our first time street performing in 2009, and thanks to the beautiful weather and the friendly crowds, we had an excellent conclusion to the July 4th weekend.
Hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July!

Finally, July! We say this not only as an avid supporter of our nation’s birthday, but also because with this new month the precipitation has tapered and summer is officially here!
Unfortunately, July began for Overboard much like June ended…with rain. However, on July 2 we battled through the mist and fog of the Northshore and made our way to the opening night of the Marblehead Festival of the Arts. We were greeted by a dynamic crowd that cheered from the second we went on until our last song an hour and a half later. They even helped rename Stu, who will henceforth be known as…Fred! We’re waiting to see if it has any staying power.
Special thanks to Brian who helped coordinate the event and also to all of the enthusiastic fans we talked with after the show!

While much of Boston was indulging in the city’s vast nightlife this past Friday, we found ourselves in Jamaica Plain supporting an impressive showing for the American Cancer Society’s regional Relay for Life event.
Our set started around 10pm and, bringing the sound of a cappella to the dedicated walkers, we debuted our summer set. Afterward, we were treated to funfetti and some time with the Relayers who were taking a much deserved break. Thanks to the Relay and our crowd, especially the three Dreamgirls that sang along with every tune!
Relay for Life raises money for national research initiatives; learn more about how you can get involved at the Relay for Life website www.relayforlife.org.

Francis Scott Key, eat your heart out!
What better way to kick off the Massachusetts Special Olympic Summer Games than with an Overboard arrangement of America’s classic, The Star Spangled Banner? Friday, June 19th, all the athletes filed into the BU Track & Indoor Tennis Center and joined us in saluting the stars and stripes before the beginning of the weekend’s events.
The following day, we sang a few sets to athletes, parents and friends alike in Olympic Town at the Harvard University Stadium. Between our sets it was uh… requested that we participate in some high intensity aerobics by our friend, Trainer Lisa. Despite working up a sweat, we finished our performance and said goodbye to our friends at the Special Olympics until next year.
We had a great time again this year, and want to congratulate all of the volunteers, coaches, athletes and their families for all of their hard work! Also, a special thanks to Jennifer for coordinating our performance!

Welcome to June, avid Overboard followers!
Things have been picking up for the sensational six. For starters, we’re now a spectacular…seven?!
You heard correctly! We recently welcomed Dave as a summer addition to our group. Dave hails from western MA, but is currently attending St. Andrew’s University school in Scotland. No, he doesn’t have an accent, but he does have a great voice that lends itself well to our summer sound.
Keep an eye out for Dave and all of Overboard in the next few weeks out on the streets of Newburyport and at many of our local gigs. We’ll be performing some of our favorites… provided this rain stops soon!

Can you believe it? It’s Overboard’s 3rd birthday and what a year it’s been!
We’ve released two albums: Castaways, a collection of our street performing highlights and Tidings, a holiday album full of modern classics and seasonal favorites. To top it off, we were nominated for a CARA for Best Holiday Album (Tidings) and won a CARA for Best Holiday Song (a dance mix of “We Three Kings”). Another of the songs from Tidings, our cover of John Lennon’s “Happy XMas (War is Over),” featuring a local children’s choir from Marblehead, MA, was played on numerous radio stations during the holiday season.
We’ve performed at a ton of gigs, ranging from small private parties (including Josh’s wedding) to a spot at Mohegan Sun, from community festivals to independent bookstores. We’ve said goodbye to old members and welcomed new ones. We’ve done karaoke late into the night on a Caribbean cruise and held master classes with local high school groups. We’ve sung in malls, on the boardwalk in beautiful Newburyport, MA and to each other on long late-night road trips.
It’s been quite a busy year, but we’re just getting started. Looking ahead, we have a ton of great gigs booked for this summer and fall. We’re planning a tour and recording a new album. We’re sure this year will be even better than last, so stay tuned for updates!

This past weekend, Overboard “broke ground” on our latest album project by recording rough tracks of the first few songs. While we’re not at liberty to discuss any of the details (top secret and all that jazz), we can disclose that it is our biggest project to date and that it will be ready for your enjoyment in the next few months. Oh, also, it’s good. Real good.
More news to come, stay tuned!
